Isolation and quarantine can take a huge toll on our mental health as being cooped up in one place is sure to make you go insane. But that doesn’t mean we have to let it toy with our minds. Here are some ways that will help you stay calm, cool and collected during this period.
- Meditation
This will calm your mind, body and soul as well as giving yourself some time to be alone. You can do this in the morning for a calming start to the day or in the evening to let the stress of the day ease away. You can find these meditations on YouTube like this one…
Or you can download apps like Calm or Headspace.
- Exercise
It is a known fact that exercising releases the chemical Endorphin. Endorphins also trigger a positive feeling in the body, similar to that of morphine. After exercising you will feel more productive and regular exercise can positively impact serotonin levels in your brain. Raising your levels of serotonin boosts your mood and overall sense of well-being. It’s a win-win situation!
- Stay Connected

- Pick up a new hobby
Use your time by trying out a new hobby, this will keep you entertained and challenged leaving you no time to let your mind run wild. Personally, I have gotten into drawing and I do it as much as I can. It is calming and tedious which I enjoy and leaves me with no time to over-think or analyse this confusing time we are in. Maybe you want to get into makeup. We have tutorials on our YouTube Channel! Give it a go and remember practice makes perfect!
- Contact a Helpline
Just because we are in isolation doesn’t mean you have to deal with worries or concerns about your own health. If you are struggling don’t be scared to call for help! New Zealand has many helplines you are able to contact if you are concerned about your well being. Here are some help lines you are able to contact.
