Stay In Style With Lylo

Travelling on a budget but don’t want to compromise on comfort? Lylo, Auckland’s latest hostel offering, is changing the way you can stay and play when visiting Tāmaki Makaurau. I was lucky enough to spend the night there before they opened and let me tell you, it was a game-changer.

I’ve stayed in my fair share of hostels in the past and while I’ve always loved the community side, I’ve hated staying in those cramped rooms with way too many bunks. On the flip side, hotels have always felt a little too fancy and suffocating to me so I’m always on the lookout for a nice balance – enter Lylo. Lylo was the perfect mixture of the two, designed to feel like 5-star accommodation while having the same welcoming atmosphere and community that comes with a hostel.

Not only was the self-check-in so easy to use, but the reception area also has access to some of the coolest rooms I’ve ever seen in a hostel. From a hangout room to a kitchen and quiet area for working, Lylo has the perfect vibe for whether you’re wanting to be social or need a little me-time.

Let’s chat rooms … Mine was cosy yet spacious enough for my partner and I – and the bed, so comfortable. As an added bonus, there is enough storage under it for your luggage or anything you pick up on your trip. With simple yet effective décor, we were blown away with how lovely our room and the whole place was. Our room was located directly next to the ‘The Outlook’ which was full of people socialising however, we had no issues with noise whatsoever – I’m convinced there are no bad rooms at Lylo.

If you’re not wanting a private room, you can check out the pod rooms which are great for solo travellers, groups or even families – the kids would love these futuristic pods! The beds are spacious and much comfier than the bunks you find at most hostels. There are also pull-across screens for a little extra privacy. I also love the décor in here – it’s hard to not be in a good mood with that wallpaper.

After having a look around, I was shown this incredible room that overlooks the city. With the coolest velvet green couches, amazing hanging lights and a projector, you could easily lounge out here for hours. If you’re wanting to grab a bite, Lylo is attached to a delish restaurant called Miss Lucy’s so you can have good food and good views without having to leave the building.
