F9 Review – The Fast Saga

Fasten your seatbelts and get ready for another ride as Fast and Furious 9, The Fast Saga is hitting cinemas June 17 2021!

Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Christopher ‘Ludacris’ Bridges and Nathalie Emmanuel return to the screen for the 9th instalment of Fast and Furious.

What’d I think?

When watching any Fast and Furious film, we are able to let our imagination run wild. There is no such thing as physics, there are no rules, anything is possible! This instalment is no exception. It can be so whacky it seems stupid (in a good way!) I like that we are able to follow and connect with the characters. We see realistic emotions and development from everyone. But, there is always a little something up their sleeve to make the film exciting!

We may think we know everything about the F family but oh you are wrong. In The  Fast Saga we get a glimpse into Dominic Toretto’s ( Vin Diesel ) time capsule of life. We also get to meet his brother Jacob ( John Cena ) as we learn more about Dom’s past as a young man.

The past F movies have all been action packed and full of craziness. I think that after 8 films the creators thought it would be best for their viewers to sit back and get to know the characters, we have all come to love and adore, a little bit better.

As per the casting in Fast and Furious 9 is to die for! Every actor, including the extras in the background, were amazing. You couldn’t take your eyes off the screen, it really did capture all of your attention. Not to mention the one and only Cardi B makes a cameo?! Amazing.

Young Dominic Toretto is played by New Zealand Actor Vinnie Bennett. All I can say is WOW!

Not only is it amazing to see a fellow Kiwi killing it in Hollywood. But Bennett stole the show! When he cried you wanted to cry, when he smiled you wanted to smile. Tuhinga o mua to him.

There’s also another Kiwi on set! Actress Anna Sawai portrays Elle, a 19-year-old young woman, raised in Tokyo, whose scientist parents were assassinated when she was 11. Elle is a trained, highly skilled fighter who is fearless and determined. Sawai has said ‘I was welcomed into the Fast family just as Elle was embraced by Dom and the team.’ Boy, did she make sure she was seen! Her performance was strong and unforgettable. Anna Sawai is not a woman to mess with!

The Fast Saga, while still action packed isn’t full of the car chases and explosions that previous films were overwhelmed with. I think this film is a nice addition to the franchise as it tells the story of the characters, how and why they got there.

While you do have to stretch your imagination during some parts of the story. After learning about the characters you can see them as human rather than as make believe movie characters that blow up cars.

Because Fast and Furious are now on their 9th film of the franchise, I see how some people have expectations of this film. I really enjoyed it. It is different to what I expected but I was not disappointed!

4/5 Stars
