Where To Buy Face Masks In NZ

With a resurgence of COVID-19 in the community and a real possibility that this virus is going to be around for the foreseeable future, there is a chance that using face masks is going to become part of our norm.

To help you support local, we’ve put together a list of businesses and crafty Kiwis who are working hard to create masks that are stylish and functional.

What are the face mask options?

Disposable face masks are available in packs of 10, 30, 50 or 100 from select pharmacies and supermarkets. The benefits of buying disposable masks are that you can in theory, get more for your money. While they’re not the most environmentally friendly option, disposable masks are lighter and in most cases, very breathable.

On the other side, there are reusable masks. Take it from me, its important to get the right style for your face. The first set I bought were rectangular in style and sat flush across your nose – this style takes a while to get used to and depending on your face shape, can be a little hard to breath in. The examples below are my preferred style and offer a small gap to help you breath more easily. With a pocket for a filter and adjustable straps, these can be adjusted to suit almost any face shape.

Note: For reusable masks, health experts are recommending everyone has 2-3 masks per person in their home so you always have a spare on hand while one is being washed.

Makyla Creates

Available in a range of patterns with ties to fit the masks to your face, I personally own two of these and can vouch for how comfortable they are.

From their website

Face Mask with two layers of cotton. The inside allows you to put in a filter or extra layer if you need to or would like to. They have elastic which is knot tied on each size so the wearer is able to adjust to a comfortable size.

These masks are machine washable making them much better for the environment than single use masks.
