Tips to Make Your Mornings Run Smoother

You know those days where you get out of the wrong side of bed, then everything seems to just snowball from there? It starts with one little thing, then another, and another, and finally the whole day is down the toilet.

These days often start with a rushed morning, amiright? You can’t find clean pants that match your shirt, you have no idea where your keys are, emails seem to be flooding in and you’re not even officially at work yet!

I’m sure most of us have been there. Luckily, there are a few simple things we can do to ensure we start the day off right – in a calm, organized, peaceful frame of mind.

Don’t hit snooze

I know, I know – it’s so tempting! Just five more minutes … which somehow turns into twenty. Eeek! Try to get yourself up straight away; before your body has a chance to realise what’s happening!

Pre-prepare your breakfasts

I don’t know about you, but I’m definitely guilty of buying a flat white along the way to work and calling it breakfast. Unfortunately though, this doesn’t do much in the “sustaining the bodily temple” area, and I end up getting the jitters in an hour or so. And while I’d love to sit down every day and have the breakfast I know I should be having, if it’s not convenient, it’s just not going to happen. That’s why I love having pre-hardboiled eggs or bacon & egg cups (you can find my favourite recipe here ready and waiting in the fridge. Otherwise, if I have nothing ready, scrambling eggs in the microwave is nice and quick!

Have outfits planned

Each night, try to make sure you have your outfit for the next day clean and ready to go – this will save loads of time in the morning rushing around. This is made even easier if you have a capsule wardrobe, as you’ll already know that everything goes with everything!

Have everything you need for the day in one place – or by your keys

It can be really helpful to create a “spot” where you keep things you’ll need for the next day – that way it’ll be much harder to forget them! I put everything I need on a bench by our back door so I’ll (hopefully) see it on the way out. We always have our keys hanging on the hook by the door, but if there’s something I need to remember that isn’t practical to keep in the “spot” (like lunch in the fridge if I’m being good), I’ll pop my keys by that, then put a post-it note by where my keys usually hang.

Don’t leave your car on E!

There have been many times I’ve been driving home and the petrol light has come on – “ah, I’ll leave a bit early and fill it up in the morning” I think to myself. DON’T DO IT! You can almost guarantee that the next morning there will be unexpected traffic or a huge wait at the petrol station (or both) if you procrastinate … it’s practically Murphy’s Law! So even though you’re tired and just want to get home, get it done then and there – and get yourself a block of chocolate to reward yourself for being organised!

So even if you aren’t a morning person – in fact, especially if you aren’t – mornings don’t have to be stressful. You got this, girl!

What do you do to make your mornings run smoothly?
