Kiwi Queen Parris Goebel Elevates Her Art With the OPPO Find X2 Pro

Tell us a bit about your creative process… What do you do to get in the zone?

The key thing for me when creating is to get into a studio, play the music and just start moving to the track. I normally have a few of my dancers with me to see how the choreograph looks and to try different options. It is all about bringing the musicality of the song to life along with what the lyrics are saying. 

While there is always a brief for projects, I like to let the creative expression flow and not put down any restrictions or boundaries and first just feel the music and see what naturally evolves.

Obviously a smartphone is a big part of your day to day life & plays a role in what you do… What does a smartphone mean to you? 

I live with my phone – it’s with me day and night. It’s obviously a big part of how I stay connected to my family and friends and how I work. But beyond these simple uses, a smartphone is far from just being a communication device. My world is super visual, instantaneous and I need to be able to snap anything I am doing, on the spot and know my camera won’t let me down.

With more and more fans watching our work on social media, I need a premium phone now more than ever to help evoke the true essence of the dance and the feelings you’d get when watching us perform live.

What role did the Find X2 Pro play as a tool for your choreo? 

Believe it or not, a smartphone plays a huge role in my creative process and the direction of any project I am working on. I like to create the choreography then film it to review what’s working and see where to improve. The bigger the screen and the sharper the viewing, the easier I can see where tweaks need to be made. It also allows my dancers to see how they’re performing and demonstrate really easily how moving in even the slightest way differently can create a better effect.

Naturally, with the Find X2 Pro’s big screen, 4K viewing and a heap of other features that make it slick and easy to use, as well as producing quality footage with the raw output and HDR enhancer, everything is made easier for reviewing and refining my art.

Who inspires you and why?

Creative things inspire me everyday. I love watching documentaries, and photography, art, music, fashion and travel all inspire me. I’ve started picking up more modelling work, particularly spending most of my time based in LA and it’s so cool to get on-set and transform into a completely different character for a shoot.

Any advice for young Kiwis looking to get a career in choreography or dancing?

Be committed to working hard every single day at your craft. There are no shortcuts on the road to success.
