Nail Polish Colours for your Skin Tone

You’re at the salon and they hand you a booklet of about 250 polish colours. What do you pick? The technician is just starring at you… Do you go for a red? Maybe that nude? We have all been there. But, struggle no more! I have found the perfect nail polish colours that will match your skin tone perfectly. No more uncertainty!

Deep Skin Tones

We recommend going with vivid and floral shades of red and pink. These colours are classics, which means they never go out of season or style. Plus they go with almost every outfit. It is a win win. Plus, dark skin tones work well with a bold colour choice due to cooler undertones. True yellows are always perfect for a statement nail. Viola Davis wore a beautiful yellow when she won her Oscar for ‘Fences’.

Medium Skin Tone

A variety of nail polish shades are particularly flattering bubble gum-pink, rosy mauves, and a moody and dark plum colour. You can also spice it up by sticking to “juicy” and “pastel” shades like a bright coral polish, a “mod pastel” lilac or a sheer, slightly sparkly shade.

Olive Skin Tone

Medium-to-olive tones are the lucky ones and can wear a wide range of colours. A lot of colours will work great with your skin tone, but it’s best to stick with shades that truly complement. For example, if your skin is warmer, go for shades that have red and orange undertones.

Light Skin Tone

If you have light skin, use a shade that’s light and ethereal, like a sandy beige shade that looks so fresh and airy it’s almost transparent. These hues, along with light pastels, will prove particularly flattering. If beige isn’t your thing, try a cloud-white or a dusty pink.

Fair Skin Tones

Fair skin tones are typically cooler with a blue undertone, so go for shades like a blue-toned, flamingo-pink. Or a soft and sheer pink. However, if you’re looking for something a little bolder, you can’t go wrong with a strong midnight-blue shade. I personally love using a fire-engine red for a truly striking finish.
