Taki Rua presents SING TO ME Written by Alex Lodge. Directed by Miriama McDowell.
INSPIRED BY MĀORI MYTHOLOGY: A LOVE STORY THAT CROSSES TWO WORLDS
A charmingly poetic, yet playfully modern, love story set against the backdrop of a climate in crisis will transport audiences into another realm, with the premiere season and five-centre tour of Sing to Me from Feb 27 – June 1.
Two worlds collide when mild-mannered optometrist Ata and fierce sea maiden Whetū fall in love. The result: a child born of both land and sea, with Ata and Whetū navigating challenges of cross-cultural relationships, the loss of Ata’s friend and differing ideas of parenthood.
Sing to Me explores intercultural relationships and the climate emergency. “As the script has developed over the past few years, the question of how we live through a climate crisis has loomed bigger and bigger in our daily lives.” says playwright, Alex Lodge.
Taki Rua delivers a play fiercely endowed with a Māori heart, giving space for audiences to bring their own myths, legends and memories to connect to the story.
