‘Never Have I Ever’ Is Your New Iso Binge Watch

Mindy Kaling nails it with Never Have I Ever, the relatable AF teen comedy that you need to be binge watching now. Check out our review below ⬇️

Never Have I Ever is a new coming-of-age comedy about the complicated life of a modern-day first-generation Indian American teenage girl. The series stars newcomer,  Maitreyi Ramakrishnan as Devi, an overachieving high school sophomore who has a short fuse that gets her into difficult situations. Never Have I Ever is created by executive producer Mindy Kaling, with Lang Fisher serving as executive producer, showrunner and writer. The Universal Television project is also executive produced by 3 Arts Entertainment’s Howard Klein, David Miner, and Tristram Shapeero.

What’d I think?

Netflix is smashing it with these teen comedies that have enough heart and cringe moments to make us 30-somethings grab a glass of wine and watch the shit out of them.

From To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, The Perfect Date and Sierra Burgess is a Loser (am I just obsessed with Noah Centineo?), I’ve done a deep dive into all of their latest teen releases and have to say, Never Have I Ever may be one of the best.

Before we really get into it though, let me crush on Mindy Kaling for a second.

I spent many years with my girlfriends binge watching and obsessing over The Mindy Project, Kaling’s series about an Indian-American woman being a boss babe and failing miserably at love – it was the perfect blend of comedy and heart. She’s my forever #wcw and I’m still holding out hope that one day we can be BFFs. Since The Mindy Project finished airing, I’ve been missing her quirky characters so I was over the moon to find out that the Queen was coming back with this show – a series that thrives on being smart, funny and full of charm.

Never have i ever

After a heartbreaking year following the death of her father Mohan, we meet Devi, an Indian-American teen whose overcome some trauma induced paralysis and has a singular goal in mind – get a boyfriend and move up the high school food chain. A sophomore, Devi is joined by her two eccentric friends Eleanor and Fabiola in her misadventures as she hatches a plan to hook-up with resident hottie Paxton. Unfortunately for her she’s not exactly one of the cool kids and Paxton, rocking your classic teen heartthrob jawline, is part of the popular ‘hot pocket’ crew.

Queue some very awkward, very hilarious moments.

We also get to meet her hard-hitting mother Nalini who is struggling to raise her strong willed daughter after the loss of her husband. With some of the best one-liners, Devi’s family rounds out with her cousin Kamala, a grad student at CalTech.

The show earns its binge worthy status thanks to sharp writing and a cast that oozes charisma. I sat down to watch one episode and before I knew it I’d binged all 10 episodes including a Netflix Party sesh with some friends who were stuck in the Never Have I Ever vortex too.

With sassy characters, comedic energy and a few emotional moments that sneak up on you, Never Have I Ever succeeds in being a brilliant addition to the Netflix scene – and the perfect iso obsession. Needing a season 2 ASAP.

Oh and if that isn’t enough of a reason to watch it, here’s the guy that plays Paxton…he’s 29, I checked. You’re welcome.
