A fierce and funny comedy that is overflowing with feminine power, Booksmart is an epic coming of age story. Check out our Booksmart review below ⬇️
On the eve of their high school graduation, two academic superstars and best friends realize they should have worked less and played more. Determined not to fall short of their peers, the girls try to cram four years of fun into one night.
What’d I think?
Molly and Amy are adorkable best friends who revel in their decision to do high school ‘right’. No parties, no dating, no breaking the rules…just acing their education. Because of this, they set themselves up for bright futures with Molly heading to Yale and Amy heading to Columbia (after a summer volunteering in Botswana, of course).
Floating through the day before graduation with their superiority complex in tact, the girls are startled to discover that their free-loving, party hard, irresponsible classmates have also been accepted into Ivy League universities. Oh, apart from the stoner who was headhunted by Google. Queue full meltdown mode that includes a cake being thrown off a mountain and the true set up for the rest of the movie.
As the girls take us on their first real partying experiences, we meet a band of quirky characters and learn more about their fears and desires. A few awkward moments will transport you back to your teen years and have you laughing/cringing. With an epic graduation entrance and a few heartwarming moments at the end, Booksmart proves itself to be smart and funny.
A great directional debut from Olivia Wilde, this fierce and witty script is a near perfect coming of age story.
