Grab someone and go to the cinema right now! And don’t forget your tissues because you are not going to want to miss this soul crushing yet gorgeous film. The film CLOSE is definitely one of my favourite films of the year and will definitely leave you shocked and stunned by the end of it.
Watch the trailer below and see my honest opinion of the film CLOSE.
A24’s synopsis:
Leo and Remi are two thirteen-year-old best friends, whose seemingly unbreakable bond is suddenly, tragically torn apart. Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, Lukas Dhont’s second film is an emotionally transformative and unforgettable portrait of the intersection of friendship and love, identity and independence, and heartbreak and healing.
My review:
This was one of the loveliest, prettiest and saddest movies I have watched in a very long time!
I had seen the trailer for this movie a few months ago and saw that it was an A24 film which immediately had already convinced me to watch as I’ve always known A24 movies to be gorgeous films with amazing scripts. The trailer had hinted that it was a about an innocent love between two childhood best friends and the shots in the trailer looked so cinematic and colorful that I had to watch!
I’m not lying when I say that the way this film was shot was unbelievably beautiful! It was set in a small town in France which made for gorgeous nature shots which made the whole movie incredibly calming. The way they had shot and portrayed the characters made every character look very angelic and made all the characters relationships with one another very intimate and sweet which definitely made me grow an attachment to each of the characters.
The main story line was about two best friends who were very close and possibly in love. It showcased their journey through school as people started to make fun of how close they were, calling them gay and asking if they were together. This is when their relationships starts to go down hill as one of them starts to push the other away in order for people to stop thinking they’re together in fears of being teased by the others. With out spoiling too much the rest of the movie turns into an absolute whirl wind of emotions! Don’t be afraid if you end up crying as you won’t be alone, the whole cinema was crying when I watched it, including myself!
Overall this was a beautiful movie and I would 100% recommend it. Even if you aren’t necessarily into romances or you think your boyfriend won’t want to watch a silly romance, this was actually an incredibly moving film with stunning cinematography that I think anyone will be bound to love too.
