Summer fitness guide: At home

Don’t feel like leaving the house? Check out these easy fitness tips  you can try at home – some even help with housework!

DIY gym time

You don’t need to go to the gym to get fit, you can bring the gym home to you. Do squats, push ups, sit ups in your living room and pick up some weights or dumbbells to work your arms. Run laps around the backyard or up and down the drive way to get in some cardio.

Mow the lawns

Let’s be honest, doing the lawns is an annoying chore, but mowing the lawns in the Kiwi heat is a great way to work out and  get a little sweaty. Pulling this bad boy around will work out your legs, arms and booty.

Hit the floor

You may be surprised to know that mopping, scrubbing or vacuuming the floors is a great way to work out your arms. Bonus, it also is a carefree way to get the house clean.

Join the yoga tribe

You can quite literally do yoga anywhere these days, but a post-wake up yoga session in your lounge is a great way to stretch out before a busy day and keep on top of your fitness.

Head to YouTube

YouTube is full of fun videos that you can use to take free classes in your home. No equipment? Try searching for Zumba, dance or aerobic classes. If you have an exercycle, have a look for some high intensity spin classes. Fitness is literally at your fingertips.

Tip: Stay motivated by setting out some time each night or morning to exercise. 30 minutes before you make dinner does the trick.

I’ve been doing this for years its just common bleeding sense. While waiting for cup of tea to boil I do some planks or walking up and down.if you have as long hallway walk up and down fifty times or so.Use your imagination. There’s so much you can do around the house.

I just looked up Utube and was amazed at all the free exercise programs. I’ve just made up a schedule for the week including some Yoga. Thank you so much for the tip. Much cheaper and more practical than the gym. 🙂

I have found a lot of good low impact work outs including yoga on YouTube. It makes a nice break especially when I am in need of mindfulness. Housework is definitely a work out as well!

I love the idea of doing exercise at home especially living rural and it’s not easy to get to the gym in town. You tube is great also I forget they have heaps on there as well to try out and see what’s best to do.

Some great tips and reminders here 🙂 It’s been such a great summer and so motivating to get fit and feel healthy. If it can be done at home, even better!

We have a very small apartment but my partner and I have been planking together a few times a day, even though it’s not much it’s better than nothing. We have some hand weights too that we use daily. I do need to look into some Yoga though as it would be great for my joints
