Did you know that having a canine bestie can actually help keep you fit?
If you aren’t one of those rare breeds of human who love to wake up early and hit the gym, getting your ass out of bed to exercise can be a real struggle. Trust us, we know. But as women who have fur babies, we’re here to fill you in on a little secret – not only are they cute AF but they are great motivators to get you out and moving.
We surveyed our audience of Kiwi women and found that 56% have at least one dog in their home with 41% indicating that their dogs have had a direct impact on increasing their weekly activity. Having a medium to large sized dog can add an extra hour and a half to your weekly fitness routine as they require more exercise than your purse sized pups.
With fur babies now replacing the role of children in some families and dogs becoming regular companions on road trips, it’s clear that they are adding more value to our lives than just keeping us fit.
How can you exercise with your dog?
We’re sure you don’t need us to figure it out for you, but if you’re getting a little tired of just running around your hood, here are three things we love to do with our pups.
Nature walks
Even in winter, throwing on a jacket and going for a scenic walk with some decent inclines is a great way for you and your dog to work on your fitness.
Doggy days
Facebook is a great way to find meet-ups with other dog lovers in your local area. It’s a great way to get a little social with new people and mindlessly walk and run around for an hour.
Playdates
Call up a friend and make a plan once a week to go on a morning walk before grabbing a coffee. It’s a great way to socialise your pup and you get to catch up on all the goss.
What’s your favourite way to get fit with your dog?
