Christmas is a great excuse to gather up your friends, whip up some amazing food, break out the wine and have a festive catch up. Whether it’s your turn to host Friendsmas or it’s a new tradition you’re looking to kick off, here are some of our top tips for throwing an epic Friendsmas bash!
Plan the menu
There are two ways to do this 1) cater it yourself or 2) make it a potluck.
If you’re going to be hosting your Friendsmas party and you’re a Masterchef in your own right, then it’s a good idea to sit down and figure out what you want to serve. Keep it delish but easy because this day is supposed to be about having fun, not about stressing yourself out – plus your BFFs have probably seen you at your worst, so they aren’t going to be too worried about whether or not you can whip together a flawless six-course meal.
If you’re going with a potluck, work to everyone’s strengths. We’ve all got at least one friend who should be hosting their own baking show, another who is a BBQ King and a few who are skilled at buying pre-made goodies from the supermarket. All are equally important when pulling together a feast so give the group some options and let them go wild.
Don’t forget that if you have someone vegan coming and your vegan cooking isn’t up to scratch, ask them to bring a little something for themselves – trust us, they won’t mind and have probably already thought about it.
Don’t forget the drinks
It’s always a good idea to have a mix of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks at your party to cater to everyone’s taste. Given it’s summer, it’s also a great time to fire up the blender and whip up some frozen cocktails. There are also some great mocktails that go down just as nicely.

Themes can be so much fun at a party and when you’re spending the day drinking with your friends, selfies are bound to happen. If you’re not big on themes, it’s still fun to head to Kmart or somewhere similar, pick up some Santa hats, reindeer ears and a few photo props to add something a little extra to the party.

Are you going ice-skating before having dinner, playing games at home or settling in for a Christmas movie marathon? Once you know how long the party is going to last, you’ll be able to figure out what you’re going to do to keep everyone entertained throughout the party.
Gifts
If you’re planning on giving gifts, Secret Santa is the best way to go. It’s budget friendly and will give everyone a chance to find something personalized to that person. Next time you catch up, draw out some name and get shopping! If you don’t have time to catch up before Christmas, assign everyone’s name to a number, slide into their DMs and have everyone pick a number so the draw is still random.
The best part about having a Friendsmas party is getting together with your crew before the busy season kicks into full gear. No matter what you do, being with your loved ones is going to be epic so don’t stress, just enjoy!
