5 Ways To Avoid Wearing Black When It’s Cold

Ever have those days where you wake up and get ready for the day only to catch a glimpse of yourself on the way out and realise you look like you’re on your way to a funeral?

We’re all guilty of it. Black clothes are great for a number of reasons – they’re flattering and you’re playing it safe. But life is about adventure and you don’t want to fall into the trap of a dark, black wardrobe. Little changes to your outfit can brighten up not only your day, but also anyone you encounter.

Experiment with colour

If your not bold enough to make huge changes straight away, start by changing your accessories. A pair of bright pink earrings, a leopard print belt or a colourful cardigan over the top all make for a great adjustment to a dark wardrobe.

A great way to experiment with colour is to start with block coloured t shirts. You can pick these up from any generic chain store and they are normally very well priced. The key is to layer with a black long sleeve shirt underneath followed by your colour block over top. Also, you want to choose a colour that you like in life. Does red make you feel confident? Do you like the playfulness of a blush pink? Pair these with some jeans and sneakers for a comfortable and confident look.

If neither of those options appeal to you but you’re still wanting to try some colour in your life then start by swapping out your black clothes for navy. It’s still pretty close to black (whilst technically not black!) so you can gradually introduce colour at your own pace. Of course more alternative colours that you could try would be grey or opaque.

Update your favourite wardrobe essentials in colour

There are a few wardrobe staples that everyone needs. A biker jacket and an A line coat are two of them. When you purchase them, take a leap of faith and buy them in a different colour. That way you don’t have the option to grab the black choice when you’re getting ready for the day. Pink blush is a great colour coat to
invest in. You can pair it with anything (think leggings! Leggings are life!) to make it high fashion. Even if the rest of your outfit is black, wearing a pop of colour on the outside will brighten your outfit instantly.

Try patterns

If you’re after another subtle way to incorporate colour then add a couple of pieces of clothing with patterns on. You can find alot of different clothes that have a different colour on a black base. Floral patterns are common during summer months (so you can often grab them on sale to wear during winter!). A top may have a black base but it could be filled with a pink or purple floral design overtop.

So make this year the year to not get snowed under with the weather. Because temperatures drop it doesn’t mean that your fashion style has to go down with it. Spring has arrived and warm days will be here before we know it!
