Did you know that going eco-friendly will actually save you money? It’s a little secret no one really talks about. The sustainable world has been given a bad rep for being expensive and unattainable, but if you put your mind to it, living sustainably can actually be super simple.
Sometimes when looking for eco-friendly products you may see a bigger price tag, but that is because items may cost a little more upfront. In the long run, going eco can save you thousands! Products like an electric car, hybrid car or solar panels are investments that will give back to you in 5 years’ time.
So, how do you lower your carbon footprint and put a little money back in your pocket?
Change your lightbulbs!
Something as simple as changing light bulbs can make the world of a difference to your electric bill! Plus, you instantly make your home eco-friendlier by switching out all of your light bulbs for energy efficient options. The most common are the compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) or light-emitting diode (LED) lights.
These bulbs are a lot more efficient than the incandescent ones you probably grew up with, and they last about 10 times longer.
These bulbs may be more expensive than a regular bulb, but they will last.
Add insulation to your home
Another big investment into reducing your carbon footprint is making sure your home is properly insulated. It really does make a world of a difference; you’ll lose less heat in the winter and less cool air in the summer. Also research shows that having the right insulation can save homeowners 15% on energy bills. No more heat pumps and air conditioners!
Low Flow Shower Head
If you are looking more something a little cheaper to start with. I recommended checking out low flow shower heads. These significantly lower the amount of water you use every time you shower. There is less water waste and you’re saving money of water heating!
Hybrid Car
Hybrid cars are a big investment. But maybe one of the best investments you can make. Hybrids use less fossil fuel, meaning less greenhouse gas emissions.
Although you do have to pay upfront, you will reap the benefits in the future.
But the amount of money you save on a hybrid does depend on a few things: how much gas you typically buy, the cost of the hybrid, fuel economy and how much you drive.
If you almost never drive and you get a fancy hybrid, you probably won’t end up saving money. But if you drive a good distance every day and usually spend a lot on gas, then you will end up saving
