supporting women

We’ve all had that moment where we’ve realised the importance of having a support network. For some of us, it comes with age and for others, it’s born out of circumstance. To help promote organisations and charities that are creating safe, inclusive and supportive environments for women, we’ve curated some of our favourite places we’d love for you to know about.

who we support

Our team of women each comes with their own life experiences, passions and interests. As such, we all have different organisations that we personally love and support outside of the Her World vision. Below are some of our favourite places we hope you’ll consider supporting in the future.

sweet louise

I love how they support women living with incurable breast cancer in a supportive, social, practical and loving way – Rebecca

Sweet Louise provides practical, emotional and social support and services for New Zealanders living with incurable breast cancer. They provide the compassion and care they need to live as well as possible, for as long as possible.

Membership is free and open to all women and men in New Zealand who have received a diagnosis of advanced breast cancer. Sweet Louise makes a difference every day to over 730 members and their families right across New Zealand.

dignity

I love that there’s an organisation actively tackling period poverty and normalising conversations around periods – Monique

Dignity is creating a world of period equity through it’s Buy-One-Give-One and Give Two initiatives.

Dignity started in 2016 to help those in New Zealand have access to sanitary items in work and at school. Dignity uses a ‘buy one, give one’ approach so that companies can provide sanitary items not only to their staff, but also to those experiencing who are lacking access to pads and tampons, causing them to miss out on education, life and work.

look good

It’s great that there is an organisation helping women who are undergoing cancer treatment feel confident – Claudia

Look Good Feel Better programmes provide an opportunity for cancer patients to connect, feel more in control and look more like their normal selves with tips, techniques and the tools to face cancer with more confidence.

Look Good Feel Better is that one day away from treatment and appointments where the focus is on the individual and supporting them to look/feel more like their normal selves, connect and take time for them.

the aunties

I love that women are supporting other women through their hardships and trying to break the cycle of violence for their children – Bruna

The Aunties believe that everyone has the right to live with self-determination, dignity, and knowledge of their mana, in recognition of the value, joy and beauty of their true selves. They are a collective of people inspired to share our power, knowledge, passion, and resources with whānau who have lived in violence,  however that may manifest.

The Aunties will walk alongside whānau to āwhi, guide, listen, and to provide a voice until whānau are confident enough to walk in their own power.

bellyful

I love Bellyfull because they are a ray of warmth and light for people who are having a tough time and need a little extra TLC – Robyn

For families with a new baby or someone with a serious or terminal illness, the arrival of some beautiful meals delivered by a friendly face can be a ray of light in a dark time. Bellyfull’s volunteers get together and cook the meals which are then frozen and delivered to those who need support and have been referred someone close to them, such as you!  You can be involved with Bellyfull in a variety of ways such as helping cook or deliver, or simply donate.
