Hallelujah! We’ve finally come across a long weekend where we can actually leave the house and because we’re in level-2, there is so much socialising on the cards – responsibly of course.
This weekend is our last public holiday until October so if you’re looking to make the most of the Queens birthday long weekend, here are a few fun things that will get you out and about.
Hit a drive-in cinema for a throwback experience (Auckland)
The Drive-In Cinema hosted by AA Smartfuel is the throwback to the past we didn’t know we needed. Set to be one of the biggest and best outdoor cinema experiences you’ll find, gather up your bubble or your closest friends and get ready to enjoy this out-of-the-box movie going experience. Screening 21 sessions over 11 days, you can watch some of your faves such as:
- Dirty Dancing
- Jojo Rabbit
- The Gentleman
- Ford v Ferrari
- and so much more!
Screenings start May 27th – June 6th (Session times from 5.30pm, 9.15pm and 1.00pm on Saturday & Sunday) at ASB Showgrounds, Auckland.
Food and beverages are available on site so you can make a girls night, date night or family night out of it!
The Drive-In Cinema schedule for this long weekend includes:
Friday 29th May
5.30pm Dirty Dancing
9.15pm Pulp Fiction
Saturday 30th May
9.15pm Ford vs Ferrari

Get in the car and take a 2-hour road trip out of your city!
Make the most of your chance to do a little travel by taking a mini backyard break. Pile your car full of snacks, tunes and good company and hit up a relaxing or entertaining town that is only 2 or so hours away. A trip this far is easy enough to do in a day or you can hire a cabin, hotel or do a little glamping to help support local tourism.
Turn self care Sunday into a self care weekend
Take self care to the next level and have yourself a spa treatment (or two or three). You can do this at home with some DIY pampering or head to a resort or local spa to give yourself the one thing you always need – a little self care. Spend the whole weekend in pure relaxation by booking a massage, pedicure, soak in a mud pool or get some essential oil therapy. Make sure whatever you pick it’s going to be something you find relaxing and enjoyable.
Have a girls night out
Now that bars are opening again, maybe it’s time for that girls night out you’ve had to put on hold. It may be a little chilly, but a good night with fun and friends warms your heart enough to keep you dancing and laughing all night long. Get dressed up, do your hair and makeup and order your fave drink!
Try a new restaurant
Have you been craving thai food or feel tempted to try a new restaurant? Make the weekend exciting by heading out to a local restaurant. Maybe you’ll find your new go-to dish and since we can’t travel right now, you can explore the world through your taste buds. We wouldn’t pass up a wine tasting either. I mean it’s winter, we’re allowed to eat a little more food, right?
What are you doing this weekend?
