Pitch Perfect 3 review – an epic conclusion to our fave chick flick series

Pitch Perfect 3

Now graduated from college, realizing it takes more than a cappella to get by, all the Bellas return in the final chapter in the beloved series. After the highs of winning the World Championships, the Bellas find themselves split apart and discovering there are no job prospects for making music with only your mouth. But when they get the chance to reunite for a European USO tour, this group of awesome nerds will come together to make some music, and some questionable decisions, one last time.

So, what’d we think?

It seems like this film has split critics down the middle, but as everyday women who love a good sing along and outlandish jokes from the mouth of Rebel Wilson, we at Her World loved this conclusion to the Pitch Perfect series.

We join the Bellas as they are trying to live their adult lives while holding onto the glory of their a cappella college days. Take away the a cappella, and this is basically most of us in our early 20s. Some less than exciting career paths and a mini reunion sees them signed up to perform as part of a USO tour…and so the competition begins.

The USO tour brings us a glimpse of Europe, some sexy army men with rock-hard bodies and new rival bands for the Bellas to rise up and defeat. Most notable of these is girl band Ever Moist led by Aussie’s Ruby Rose who devour the Bellas in a classic Pitch Perfect riff-off.

We won’t lie, this film throws down the same tropes from the previous two, but why fix what isn’t broke? There is still the same humour, the same great performances and the same heart to Pitch Perfect 3 that made you fall in love with the series in the first place.

The real heart of this film comes from the great women who make up the Bellas. Anna Kendrick is still delightful as Beca, the sometimes moody musical genius with an angelic face and her group of friends are still as weird and wonderful as they’ve always been.

As always, Rebel Wilson shines as Fat Amy punching out the one-liners in record time.

This line basically wins the whole film and still gives us the giggles.

Elizabeth Banks and John Michael Higgins are back as the acapella commentators who have little to no faith in the Bellas, this time fronting a documentary following the rise and fall of the Bellas. They are still a brilliant duo who crank out a mixture of sexist and sexual one-liners that bring a few laughs.

The film ends wonderfully with each of the Bellas wrapping up their journey as they move into the next phase of their lives.

But, should you see it?

So not an original movie by any means, but Pitch Perfect 3 is yet another film to pop on the shelf for a girls night or for when you need a pick me up. It’s funny, action-packed and set to a great soundtrack that you’ll be obsessed with in no time. We definitely recommend grabbing a glass of wine (or two) and settling in for a night with the Bellas.

looks like a fun movie that you would not have to concentrate too much on – probably would not see this unless it was on tv as there are so many other movies that I would prefer to watch first.

I was a fan of the first movie. I thought the franchise was a little used up. It had some nice songs. But it didn’t have a strong storyline. It feels too dragged out. The acting a little farfetched, I find. But hey it’s still a good movie to just have a good sing along with especially since some of the songs are familiar.

I’m a real fan of hailee stienfeld. She’s a great actress. I have watched all the pitch perfect movies but haven’t caught up with this most recent one. It looks like a great laugh. Be a great night out for the girls. Great write up about it and loved the movie trailer. Definitely a must see to add to the list.

I have to be totally honest and say that I would not watch this movie! I haven’t seen any of the others (nor any movies like them), as they are just not my cup of tea. I kinda get why they are popular though especially with teenage girls maybe 🙂
