Fashion’s big night on the Met Gala red carpet

The Met Gala is THE red carpet event in fashion. The annual fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City is attended by entertainment celebs, models, creatives and fashion industry icons.

Each year the theme takes the fashion in different directions (not all of them up!). The controversial theme for 2018’s Met Gala was ‘Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination’ – make of that what you will, the celebs surely did! The Costume Institute’s curator, Andrew Bolton, said “dress is fundamental to any discussion about religion”.

On the red carpet

So what did the celebs wear? Check out some of the best, a few of the misses and some of the most outlandish outfits (hint, a lot of them were way out there!).

The night was co-hosted by Rihanna, Amal Clooney, Donatella Versace, Anna Wintour and Stephen and Christine Schwarzman. Rihanna obviously took her leadership role seriously, with a nod to the pope in this John Galliano ensemble.

Knew it! Katy Perry really is an angel! I just hope there were no revolving doors on the way in. By Versace (of course).

Also wearing Versace was Mrs Deadpool herself, Blake Lively. I have no idea how she dealt with all that fabric but this dress is almost as stunning as her husband.

Madonna went for a grieving Queen Victoria look …

Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra wore a deep crimson velvet dress by Ralph Lauren, only outdone by the embellished chainmail cowl.

Someone needs to check on Solange Knowles – I’m pretty sure I spotted that creature that’s wrapped around her waist in one of those Alien movies.

You know it’s the Met Gala when even Zendaya wearing what I can only imagine is a Joan of Arc costume barely raises an eyebrow.

Please, someone buy Jenny from the block a new pose.

And that’s how you rock a pants suit! Amal Clooney wears a stunning Richard Quinn outfit with to-die-for silver bodice and spring floral train that we all want!

Kim Kardashian was Kanye-less for the gala. But she remembered to bring her style. Hair, make-up, dress – all on point. By Versace.

It was this or an entire nativity scene. SJP wears … umm … something.

And amongst all that glitz and glamour, we couldn’t forget this little bit of romance …

The only costume I liked was Amal Clooney. And Blake Lively’s, only because I’m a fan. 😛 The rest was just a little too much. But hey, it’s the Met, they always try to outdo themselves every year.

The costumes are fantastic! What a great time the designers must have had coming up with them! I love Jared Leto’s Costume

Some of the things they wear seem quite bizarre like you would think why would they wear that but at the same time it’s entertaining watching them all dressed up.

I love seeing some of the crazy outfits these celebs wear!! They must spend so much time and not to mention money getting the outfits sorted haha. I would love to dress up like that for a dress up party, would be awesome 🙂

Rihanna looks beautiful I love her dress. Not too keen on Katy perrys style. Most of them look beautiful. I reckon the theme of cool from a catholic imagination. Very cool
